I'm an idiot when it comes to twitter.

I use twitter. I usually use it to alert followers of a new post, a giveaway, or sometimes I'll just post random things. I've heard nothing but good things about twitter and how it can improve your business, blah, blah, blah.

While on twitter, I've seen the twits (twitters? tweets? LOL!) with the # tag at the end. Tonight, I not only jumped into my first one, I decided to join TWO. Talk about asking for trouble!

Now, granted, I did find this wonderful link to Tweet Grid. I was able to open 4 separate grids and follow both # parties.

However, it took less than 2 minutes for me to feel like a complete and utter idiot! I couldn't keep up. Topics were all over the place. I honestly started to get a migraine just trying to focus long enough to figure out what the heck I was supposed to say.

Please tell me I'm not the only one out there like this. Are all the # parties like this? I'm trying to build up my twitter base, but I feel like I completely failed tonight!

If ya'all have any tips on using twitter and getting good results, I'd love to hear them!

Maybe I won't look like such an idiot at the next # party. Maybe.

Twitter is a PIA sometimes, especially with the parties. I just stick to new post alerts and small conversations.

I am right there with you, Angie! I am confused by the purpose of Twitter--I thought that not only was it a place to connect with friends, but that it also was a tool to promote your business or blog to a wider audience. I have seen a number of posts where people were complaining about the number of Tweets re. sales and promoting etsy sites and other businesses. Some people went so far as to call it spam and warned that people could get kicked off Twitter...am I missing something? So what's the deal with the Cheap Tweets, then? The times I've posted a sale, I've heard from Cheap Tweets (I assumed they were an appendage of Twitter) saying they tweeted my deal. And then, I signed up with Socialtoo to track the number of followers/unfollowers in a day (big mistake--got a complex over people unfollowing). I also signed up with one site to add an instant message to new followers since I can't possibly be on Twitter all day greeting everyone who follows, but then I saw people complaining about that. The # thing throws me, too. I thought I was just supposed to throw that in when tweeting about the CPSIA or Girls Night Out, I didn't know that there were actual groups meeting in secret some place...I look forward to some answers from some more savvy Twitterers. In the meantime, I'll be Tweeting you!
